Jenny: Yes I’d LOVE sheet music to The Gael/The Kiss!!! The wife absolutely craves that tune and I smear some of the nuances of the rolls having learned it by ear.
Are you folks coming to Ingleside this year? I hope so… Pray for DRY weather for that weekend!!!
I love the tune lesson videos… Keep them coming (when you get time)!!!…
We’ll see you at TRF over Thanksgiving weekend.
K.
nice work on your instructional video. you did a great job. i love it when i get to learn something new every day.
Thank you for a really great explanation of the long roll. The first person that taught that to me explained it as “the note, the note above the note, the note, the note below the note, the note.” This was enough to get me started, but just last week my fiddle teacher explained it more like the way you’ve explained it, and now my rolls are starting to sound more roll-y. I think your method will definitely help me even more. Thank you so much!
Oh and that was a wonderful interview by the way. It always makes me happy to hear about people following their dreams and really enjoying their lives. It sounds like you’re just where you want to be. I hope your first year at the pa ren fest won’t be your last!
Thanks Jenny. Very clear instructions ! Im looking forward to the newxt few parts. Tom
Your videos are great. I’m learning to play the violin and this is a pretty cool song I cant wait to try playing this please let me know if there is anything i need to do for the sheet music other than signing up!
Jenny, when you will post new lessons for the last of the mohicans? I need to learn to play it. I am Brazilian and deeply appreciate his technique. Thank’s.
Nice roll instructional! I’ll be looking for the next parts for sure. Thanks for the inspiration! Love the Hardanger fiddle sound — hope you put up a video of yourself playing one!
Thanks so much to doing the video about the five note roll. I am learning it and want to move from the roll to the next 3 eigth notes F E D. Question about where the beat lands. In you instruction seems the next beat lands on note 5 of the roll? and than does not work for me. Can you play through the entire phrase for me?
great explanation, is a beautiful score and thanks for sending me, I’m following your updates, too, thanks!

Jenny;
thanks for parts 1-4 , but as a beginner,( I started playing only 3 months ago. Mid life crisis) I am still having trouble getting the rhythm on how to just start playing. Maybe in part 5 you can play the song slowly. . . for us newbes. to show us how to put parts 1-4 together. Thank you for your performance.
Mark
Please send a copy of sheet music for Mohicans.
I signed up for the music sheet, but I get an error message!! Says ” Safari ca not open file”, I am on a Mac, do you have a Mac friendly share? Thanks!!! I hope to learn lots from you. I am so considering some private lessons with you!
Did this ever work out for you? I do use a mac as well. I recently revamped my email list service and changed the way the file was attached. Please email me if you still need the music sheet!
Would love to play the Gael! Looking for the sheet music…and play with other fiddlers.danieldaog@yahoo.com
You’re instructions were very clear! I have been playing for about 13 years and haven’t been as much the past 2/3 so I’m picking up my violin more often now and trying to learn some stuff other than the same ‘ol violin sheet music I’ve been doing for years. I subscribed to the blog but didn’t get the sheet music for the Last of the Mohicans Theme song yet! I learned the first roll fairly easily and have been trying to figure out the rest by ear, some sheet music would sure help! Thanks 🙂 I think what you play and how you play is beautiful! Really inspires me to play more !

e Jenny won the tips, I think it took me a while to find this song but I’ll be following your videos. I think I get the hang And when, is a beast on the subject put my video to give you a few laughs. (Google Tradutor hahahaha).
courtney is my daughter she has perfect pitch and can play just about anything but this song agravated her, she couldnt figure it out, we found your lessons and it showed her what she needed ty, she learned a lot from them
YOu are an excellent violinist and good teacher…by myself i’ll never learn how to play Last mohicans by violin so thank you very much!!!
Thank you for breaking down how to play this song. I grew up hearing it and took up playing the violin so that maybe I could someday play it. However due to the many distractions in life I am still currently a beginner. But with your lessons and generousity I will hopefully master this song just like you 🙂 All I have to do is be patient and committed 🙂 P.S. Do you think you could create a tutorial on how to play “On the Beach” from Queen of the Damned. I will be anticipating your e-mail like a Christmas present lol. Once again thank you.
How cool was that! I love the way you explained it. Is 2-4 available as well?
You are an awesomely cool woman and I love the way you play.
Thank you for explaining the five note roll. I’ve been playing through Jay Unger’s Ashokan Farewell trying to play the parts with the five note slurs and you helped my focus.
Rick

Thank u beforhend . Alessandro(italy)
Yes, there is some subtlety to this tune that it difficult to express, but I have just sent you the sheet music, and I hope it helps!
I have been practicing violin for several years now and found your short video on how to play the very first part of Mohicans (a favorite violin piece of mine) so very helpful. I went right to my violin and did it! Now I’m just waiting for your video on the next part in the sequence! 🙂 I have your sheet music too and can play the notes but I really can’t get the rhythm down without assistance like what you demonstrated on the video. I hope you’ll do that with each section through the song..??!!??
Thankyou for your selfless teaching on the Mohicans. I just started playing a month ago and am practicing very hard. My husband is very gracious about my practicing so I tried to learn your mohicans song as a treat for him because its his absolute favourate and I like it too. Your instructions are WONDERFULL!!! I got it down farely ok over the weekend, for a beginner… Just wanted to let you know you are putting some joy out there and even reaching old South Africa!!
Hey Jenny,
Thanks for the nice vids… Because of your video’s I started to learn how to play the violin in february this year. The goal is to play the tune on my sisters wedding 31st of August (by the end of this month). It’s been a struggle to learn how to play it, and in the meanwhile having to pay a lot of attention to the basic techniques of playing the violin. But, nevertheless, I almost gave up on it, but am very pleased to say, that it begins to sound very good. Thanks to you I set a goal, and again thanks to you I believe I’m gonna reach it…!!! Next song that I’m eager to learn is the tune from Braveheart movie… Would be great to learn it from you again 😉
Kisses from Belgium!!!

Thank you very much for the sheet music for “The last of the Mohicans”. I struggle a little but know how long it actually takes me to learn a new piece from music so I am not disheartened. I am used to playing some Irish music in 6/8 and 9/8 with very little or no ornamentation; which is so important to play it with a modicum of likeability. I am actually 65 years old and started playing when I was 59. Sometimes I still feel like a beginner and sometimes like a proper traditional player. I have played Guitar in folk sessions since the age of 14 so I do have a feel for the music.
I love the way you play and therefore have made your website a favourite. Also done the same with the U Tube vids.
You, Jenny, have many years to expand your musical vocabulary and to improve on your already impressive playing so all the best with that and I hope to be seeing you and your band for many; in my case..not so many, years.
Love..Nick
Hi Jenny – I looove this piece. I can’t play for crap, and have only just started playing – one lesson in, but I guess because I’m so impatient I’ve jumped onto learning your piece instead. So much more interesting than the book I was given – Essential Elements for Strings, Book One (roll of eyes!!)
Thanks so much
Tere Eunson, Australia
That’s great, Tere. I can really relate, and I’m glad this is giving you a fun outlet other than Ode to Joy. At some point it will be very important to get some basics under your belt. I recommend the Suzuki books over Essential Elements. Essential Elements is more geared toward getting kids in a school program to be able to play something simple together. Suzuki is more based on training the actual techniques required to sound beautiful on violin.
Great Video Jenny!!! I play the highland bagpipe and the trills are basic grace notes to me. I am used to playing these types of tunes as Scottish and Irish alike. However, I am just learning violin and it’s great know how to do these on the violin.
Hi Jenny! You are an amazing violinist and a great inspiration! I have been able to follow your lessons on how to play the four pieces of the main melody of the music, but I was wondering if you would be willing to do some instruction on the other portion of the longer notes which you say is the accompaniment? It sounds incredible when you play it and it would be fantastic to learn it along with the main melody. Thanks for all the great info you have passed along!!
Jenny, I am 48 years old and have never played an instrument in my life. I entertained the idea of playing violin off and on throughout my adulthood, but believed that it would be too hard to learn. The I saw you play this song and I HAD to learn to play. So I am sitting here with a violin borrowed from the music teacher at the school where I teach, and I’m dreaming of where I can go with this- that I can play this beautiful piece someday. What I would like to know is if you have seen people my age who also had zero experience with a musical instrument, who picked up a violin and learned to play! My husband is saying, “It’s going to take you years!”. I know I can’t rush things, but I really want to learn to play sooner than “years” from now. Am I being realistic?
Hi Karen, Bad news first: Your husband is right, violin does take years. The good news: The years are going to pass either way, so you might as well do what you want and learn violin along the way. It requires a consistent time commitment for practice, but it won’t take all your time. A few years is better than never right? I’ve seen a lot of adults take up the violin and improve to the level of good playing, including myself. But I’ve also seen and heard stories via email of a lot of people who give up, usually before they even begin, often as a result of one of two reasons from my perspective:
1) They tried to learn on a crappy violin.
2) They tried to do it without getting good lessons in technique from a teacher who understands the adult learning process.
Admittedly, I have come across people who don’t seem to have much aptitude for music. It’s just one of those mysterious things about life. I used to play in a band with a guy who had a somewhat low aptitude for music. For some reason he just didn’t get rhythm the way some people do naturally. The very cool thing about this little story is that, although he decided to quit pursuing music professionally, through hard work and persistence he was able to learn to play well enough that he enjoys music for himself and can share it with his family and friends.
I’ve taken on about 12 adult beginners students myself, and each of them is learning at entirely different pace regardless of age. Sure, starting at age 3 is a huge brain advantage, but after 18, I think we are all in the same boat.
If you really feel the need to get some musical satisfaction in less than one year, then I recommend the guitar or piano rather than violin. While these instruments take just as long to master, base level of proficiency is possible to obtain in a MUCH shorter time frame.
If it is in your heart to play violin, then you simply must try, because that is the only way you will determine what is realistic. I hope you try! And please do, take your own advice, and don’t rush it.
Jenny. Thank you. Your response is so helpful, and is also actually all good news to me:). I do not aspire to play professionally, only to enjoy for myself first, and maybe someday for family and friends too. You are right about the years will pass either way. That’s what I told my daughter before she went to college- four or five years will pass, and if you go to college now you will have your degree then. If not, it still will come and you won’t. A few years of working toward something is worth it to me. I should have clarified that my husband’s reference to years meant more like a lifetime/decades. I may very well have a crappy violin… so I think I’ll tackle that one first. I will let you know down the road if I stuck with this or not. I plan to! Thank you!
beautiful !! Thanks jenny
Is this still a current offer? I got an error message when I clicked the download link for the sheet music. Let me know!
Kerri, sorry to hear the download wasn’t working for you. If you email our web support gal at help@thehotviolinist.com, she’ll set you up with the sheet music. Thanks!
Jenny .. you know what, you are probably the best one who ever played this song. You are really so cute .. you broke my heart 🙁
Thank you very much!!!!
Hi jenny
Everything is ok : the last Mohican’s sheet + your eight vidéo explaining the Rolll and the so special Celtic sound by scraping the strings. I have some difficulty when the medius is fix to get the indépendance between annular and the fifth, but with practicing i Will pas the cap. Fifty years later studying violin again Will bring to me joy and dynamism after retirement. I have now a new commitment and you are one of my Suns after my violin teacher;-)
And your english is perfect for a foreigner
Kisses
Denis
For me as foreigner! (French 😉
Hola soy Sergio de Argentina . Sos una verdadera diosa músical. Saludos
Hi Jenny
I have been learning folk fiddle for 10 years and your explanation on how to play grace notes is fantastic – I finally get it! This will really help me in playing the subtle nuances in a lot of folk tunes rather than just playing them straight. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials.
Kind regards
Louisa
